E-Bike Parts

E-bike conversion kits, mid-drive motors, batteries, and controllers — the components that turn a standard bike into an e-bike. A quality conversion typically runs $400–$1,200, often cheaper than buying a complete e-bike with comparable specs and giving you the option to keep a frame and components you already know.
Mid-drive vs. hub-drive is the first decision:

Mid-drive motors (Bafang BBS02, BBSHD) engage the bike’s drivetrain at the bottom bracket. Better hill-climbing efficiency, more natural feel, gear range works with you, and easier to service. More expensive and installation requires bottom-bracket compatibility (English/BSA threaded only).
Hub-drive motors (front or rear wheel hub) are simpler installations and usually cheaper. Front hubs change steering feel; rear hubs are heavier and harder to swap tires on. Less efficient on hills because the motor can’t use the bike’s gears.

Battery capacity (watt-hours) determines range:

350Wh = 20–25 miles realistic
500Wh = 35–50 miles
700Wh+ = 60+ miles, but adds 5–8 lbs

48V systems are more efficient than 36V at the same wattage — the motor draws less current for the same power output, which means less heat and longer component life. 48V has become the de facto standard for mid-drive kits.
The Bafang BBS02 (mid-power) and BBSHD (high-power, 1,000W+) are the dominant standards in the mid-drive aftermarket — well-documented, parts widely available, large DIY community for support.
